Carrollton Boys Are WIVC Track and Field Champions
The Hawks took the boys title with 141 points, with Routt coming in second with 128 points. Greenfield Northwestern was third with 102, Virginia came in fourth with 69 points, and Brown County rounded out the top five with 53 points. Pleasant Hill came in sixth with 34 points, Winchester West Central was seventh with 22 points, White Hall North Greene was eighth with 19 points, and Jacksonville Illinois School for the Deaf was ninth with eight points.
Routt took the girls championship with 168.5 points, West Central was second with 125 points, Carrollton was third with 103 points, Northwestern was fourth with 89.5 points, and Brown County was fifth with 49 points. Virginia came in sixth with 32 points, Pleasant Hill was seventh with 11 points, and North Greene was eighth with two points.
Carrollton head boys and girls track and field coach Angie McAdams was ecstatic about the performance of her boys and girls. “These athletes really came together as a team,” she said. “While we have great individual performances, we couldn’t do it without everyone picking up relays or events they might not do every meet, but doing what they can for the team.”
In the boys sprint races, Routt was one-two in the 100 meters, with Dylan Marshall winning with a time of 11.1 seconds, and Alex Cosgriff was second at 11.4 seconds. In the 200 meters, Marshall took the race with a time of 23.44 seconds, with Cosgriff second at 23.50 seconds. Going to the middle distances, Carrollton’s Cole Carpenter was first in the 400 meters at 53.8 seconds, while Pleasant Hill’s Stone Zirkelback took the 800 meters at 2:08.1.
Virginia took the top two spots in the 1,600 meters, with Joe Walker winning at 5:03.9, and Kole Tate coming in second with a time of 5:19.9. Walker won the 3,200 meters, coming in at 11:13.6. In the hurdles races, Northwestern’s Blake Motley won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.6 seconds, and the 300-meter hurdles was won by Cristian Luparell of Brown County, with a time of 44.7 seconds.
In the relay races, the Carrollton team of Harley Angel, Carpenter, Zach Flowers and Brett Lehr won the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.6 seconds, the 4x200-meter relay was won by Routt’s team of Cole Butler, Cole Evans, Butler and Marshall at 1:37.5. Carrollton won the 4x400-meter relay, with the team of Seth Howard, Max Arnett, Carpenter and Flowers coming in at 3:48.46, and the 4x800-meters was won by Virginia’s team of Dawsen Lemons, Tate, Walker and Brayden Weimer, with a time of 9:38.3.
In the field events, West Central’s Austin Young won the triple jump with a distance of 41’ 8.5”, Dylan Smith of Carrollton took the high jump with a leap of 6’ 2.25”, along with the long jump, coming in at 20’ 9.75”, Geoff Giles of Pleasant Hill won the discus throw with a toss of 125’ 6”, and the shot put was won by Cade McAdams of Carrollton, with a throw of 43 feet even.
In the girls meet, Brown County’s Kate Lehne won the 100 meters with a time of 13.1 seconds, Anna Sellars of West Central won the 200 meters, coming in at 28.1 seconds, the 400 meters was won by Routt’s Galen O’Neal at 1:09.4, and Kirsten Huffman, also of Routt, won the 800 meters, coming in at 2:38.2.
In the distance races, Huffman won both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter races, taking the 1,600 with a time of 5:59.4, and the 3,200 at 12:25.7. In the hurdles, West Central’s Madison DeJaynes won the 100-meter hurdles, coming in at 17.3 seconds, while the 300-meter hurdles was won by Routt’s Emma Terwische, who’s time was 52.7 seconds.
In the relay races, Northwestern’s team of Haylee Bilbruck, Pohlman, Driscoll and Kristin Smay took the 4x100-meter relay, coming in at 55.72 seconds, West Central’s team of Sellars, DeJaynes, Laura Garrett and Bailey Mason won the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:58.2, the 4x400-meter relay was won by Routt’s team of O’Neal, Terwische, Destiny Mouser and Huffman with a time of 4:41.19, and the winners of the 4x800-meter relay was Carrollton, who’s team of Lily Baumgartner, Olivia Richey, Ella Richey and Graci Albrecht had a time of 12:19.5.
In the field events, Driscoll and Smay were one-two in the triple jump for Northwestern, with Driscoll winning with a leap of 30’ 8.75” and Smay the runner-up at 29’ 8”, Camree Coats of West Central won the high jump with a leap of 4’ 8.75”, Madison Gilmore of Carrollton took the long jump with a distance of 15’ 8”, Ellen Kangas of Carrollton won the discus throw with a toss of 107’ 1”, and the shot put winner was Zoey Evans of West Central, who threw 36’ 2”.
