Fatal Greene County Car Crash

CARROLLTON - Only broken plastic and Illinois State Police accident scene investigation paint on the pavement for drone photography marks where a woman sustained injuries and later died in a head-on two car accident that occurred at 9:04 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, on U.S. Route 67 at Macoupin Creek Bottom in Greene County.

The driver of the southbound car, Mary Griffith, 47, of Carrollton died from injuries sustained in the crash. According the the Illinois State Police report, riding in the car with Griffith were 19 year old daughter Shyanne Griffith and two juveniles, ages 1 and 11.

A 2006 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 26 year old Bryce Dooley of Decatur, IL., was northbound on US Route 67 and just north of the Macoupin Creek bridge guardrail when he crossed the centerline and struck the southbound 2003 Dodge Stratus driven by Griffith. Griffith was transported by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Saint Louis, Mo. where she was later pronounced deceased.

Dooley and his passenger, 25 year old Hailey Taylor of Pana, IL., were transported to Thomas Boyd Hospital by Greene County Ambulance in Carrollton. Air ambulance transport was attempted to transport Taylor to Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL. but due to the poor weather conditions she was transported by the Greene County Ambulance Service.

The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
