With A Slow Start, Carrollton Battles Camp Point To 40-32 Loss
Carrollton concludes the season 6-3, but still receives a playoff bid.
Quarterback Hunter Flowers was 23 of 32 passing for 271 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the game. He rushed for 69 yards and a score. His favorite target – Nathan Walker – caught nine passes for 141 yards, a season high.
Cole Williams scored on a 62-yard run on the third play of the game to give Camp Point a quick lead in the game. At one point, Carrollton was behind 40-18, but the Hawks came charging back to score two times before the end of the game.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Ethan Brannan scored on a 12-yard reverse handoff that gave the Hawks some late momentum. He caught five passes for 63 yards and rushed for 20 yards with a touchdown in the game.
The Hawks continued the comeback with 2:59 to play as Garrett Settles caught a 3-yard pass in the end zone that gave Carrollton a shot at improbably tying the game. However, they wouldn’t get the ball back, and Central ran out the clock to end the game.
Camp Point concludes the regular season with an 8-1 record.
Carrollton will be working to meet Camp Point Central again in the playoffs, if it can record an opening win. The Hawks are currently scheduled to play seventh ranked Sesser-Valier at Sesser this Saturday at 1PM. If Carrollton wins, they will play the winner of the Greenfield-Northwestern vs. Camp Point game winner. Camp point is ranked #2 with GNW ranked 15.
