Jersey Making Progress But Loses To Marion
Marion had 14 points in the third quarter to the Panthers seven points, then 15 points in the fourth period to Jersey’s eight.
Jersey's Matthew Jackson ran 1 yard for a score the second quarter and the kick failed. Marion’s Boston Ziegler ran 15 yards in the third quarter for Marion’s first score. In the third quarter, the Panthers’ Nate Goldacher ran 14 yards for a score with a point after touchdown (PAT) by David Rogers. Marion’s Josh Schmidt rambled 21 yards in the third quarter for another score and the two-point conversion run was good. Marion’s Dylan Kinell ran 14 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter and the PAT run was good. Ziegler tossed a touchdown to Cade Cruse in the fourth period for another Marion score. The PAT kick was good.
The last Panthers’ score was by Goldacher, a 25-yard ramble and the run by Kurt Hall was good for the PAT.
“I think as a program took step forward we got better tonight in a real dogfight our kids got a taste for a really tough game,” Jersey head coach Ric Johns said. Johns added that he was encouraged by what he saw in the game as his team heads for a matchup against Centralia at home this upcoming Friday.
For the Panthers, Hall had 11 carries for 78 yards. Jackson had 15 carries for 63 yards. Goldacher had 9 carries for 52 yards.
Jackson was 5 of 12 passing for 50 yards.
