Jersey County Board To Vote On Paying Significant Engineering Fees
The meeting was recorded in its entirety and lasted less than 28 minutes. The meeting included the usual and customary actions of the board that include approval of the previous meeting minutes, bill to be paid, new business discussions and the County Engineer's report.
Watching the video, you can see that the initial cost for engineering by Heneghan & Associates for road improvements in support of the Mid-American International Gateway Development is $115,700.00. The area of the development is currently on the county tax rolls but the developers plan to seek annexation by Jerseyville at some time in the future. This action, along with Jerseyville's desire to overlay yet another TIF district over the property will likely reduce the taxes paid to the county and other taxing bodies given the increased valuation that will occur with development.
The roads needed to conduct development and ongoing operations of the development are currently county responsibility but will likely be annexed by Jerseyville after the engineering and improvements are completed. Funding for the improvements has not been determined as of now.
