Roxana Drops First Summer Baseball Game to Southwestern
Southwestern pounded out 10 hits. Chase Stahl led Southwestern with three hits, Ryne Hanslow, Kyler Seyfried and Brady Salzman had two hits apiece; Marcus Zurheide had one hit.
Seyfried was the winning pitcher for Southwestern.
Brian Hanslow, the Southwestern coach, said: “We have had some kids striking out a lot, but when you score 10 runs for now you can live with the strikeouts. Our pitcher pitched a great game.” Southwestern had two runs in the second, one in the third, three in the fifth and four in the sixth inning.
Roxana coach Scott Harper said it was the first game for his team of the summer after a three-week break from the spring. He said he knows his team will improve as the season progresses. He also said several of the players are football and basketball players, so training for multiple sports over the summer.
Southwestern, 5-2, plays at home at 1 p.m. Sunday against the Jerseyville Junior Legion.
