JERSEY COUNTY - Local turkey vultures or "buzzards" can be seen throughout the area as temperatures are finally starting to warm. Today's high should be in excess of 70 degrees. This specimen was wing spreading to warm itself. When vultures are exposed to cold and damp nights, they spread their wings and sun themselves to raise their body temperature (it drops as they roost at night) and dry their feathers to bake off bacteria picked up while eating carrion.

This specimen was sunning atop a chimney at an abandoned farmhouse located on Bartlett Road.
