Tuesday, February 20, 2018 - 15:09
The Hawks’ Kyle Waters had 14 points and Nathan Walker had 12 points. Garrett Settles added 11 points.
The Tigers’ Ben Bayless had 18 points, most off of collecting offensive rebounds. Zane Thomson followed with 12 and Hayden Lansaw added nine points, all on triples.
Carrollton held a 36-32 halftime lead, then bolted in front 64-43 at the end of three.
Carrollton, 10-15, plays West Central at 7 tonight in the Raymond-Lincolnwood.
Carrollton head coach Matt Goetten said the game against Greenfield-Northwestern was a fun game. “The kind of effort Jones turned in is what he is capable of giving,” he said. “He was in a zone tonight. It’s nice when the ball goes into the basket. The win comes down to the first three minutes of the second half. Our pressure got to them.”
Goetten said he is excited about facing West Central and hopes this time the game is close.
“West Central is a really good basketball team and the No. 1 seed in the regional,” he said. “I am looking for the same effort from the boys against West Central.”
Greenfield-Northwestern head coach Joe Pembrook said the finality of the last game of the year is always a bitter pill to swallow.
“We made some adjustments to Jones in the last half of the game, but they have a lot of weapons,” Pembrook said. “Carrollton shot the ball extremely well. They were too much for us to overcome.”
