Winning Formula Leads To North Green Senior Night Win
North Greene head coach Brett Berry notched his 200th win in the game. North Greene concludes the regular season with a 22-5 overall mark. This is the first time since 2005 the Spartans have won 20 games. The team now is primed for IHSA Class 1A Regional play next week at Raymond-Lincolnwood. The Spartans recognized its seniors prior to the start of the game.
North Greene was in command of the Greene County rivalry game from the start with a 20-5 lead after one quarter, then 35-10 at the half. In the third quarter, the Spartans led at one time by 32 points.
Josh Hopper led North Greene with 18 points and Jonah Hopper added 17 points. Brett Whicker had nine points for the Spartans. Zion Thomas and Logan Guthrie chipped in six.
Dylan Pohlman had nine points to lead Greenfield-Northwestern. Ben Bayless had eight points, while Ben Nord and Matt Walker each tallied four points for the Tigers.
North Greene head boys coach Brett Berry had this to say after the win: “The kids played great. It was senior night and we were able to honor our seven seniors well.
“We are excited about the regional. Our kids have won nine of their last 10 games. We are playing good basketball.”
Greenfield-Northwestern head coach Joe Pembrook said: “I have to give a lot of credit to North Greene. They played well. North Greene has a very nice squad that has postseason hopes. It was their senior night. They put a lot of pressure on us and made us feel uncomfortable on offensive end. We play Carrollton Monday night in regional at Raymond, it's a Greene County rival. We had a very highly contested game with them a few weeks ago. It's one that we feel that if we play well and bring effort and energy, we should be in the game and see where the chips fall.”
