ASSUMPTION - Carrollton St. John’s seventh-grade girls basketball is headed to the IESA state seventh-grade girls championship game.

The St. John’s team slipped by Monmouth ICS at Assumption A & M Junior High 19-17 this past week to earn a spot in the state championship game Thursday night against West Lincoln Broadwell, 27-0. St. John’s record now stands at  21-1.

Ryan Kallal led all Carrollton St. John’s scorers with 6 points, while Sophia Pohlman had 5 points and Kylie Kinser had 4 points. Ella Stumpf added 3 points and Lauren Walker scored 1 point.

Mattie Gillen had 11 points for Monmouth ICS

Carrollton St. John’s preceding game against Hume Shiloh was won with a 25-19 score.

Again, Kinser was the team’s top scorer with 17 points. Stumpf and Pohlman both contributed 4 points.

St. John’s head seventh-grade girls coach Robyn Klingler said she planned to work her girls hard this week in preparation for the big game Thursday night. She said she was proud of her girls and their accomplishments and knew 27-0 West Lincoln Broadwell would be a difficult team. With enough work before Thursday, she expects her girls to be able to contend with the undefeated opponent.
