Shells Broken by Hawks In Home Opener
Saturday, December 2, 2017 - 22:23
While losing their first game of the season, the Hawks outlasted and outplayed Roxana 52-40 in a game that was tight in the first half, with the game knotted 22-22 at the end of two quarters.
Carrollton coach Matt Goetten when asked about the game said, "We're going to get better. We started late with football players and we aren't in shape the way I'd like to see them. This is going to be a work in progress."
Hunter Flowers, Carrollton's football quarterback, is making the transition to basketball with 20 points in this game, to lead all scorers. He knocked in four 3-pointers for the Hawks. Gabe Jones contributed 8 points and Ethan Brannan and Blake Struble finished with 7 points apiece.
Roxana coach Mark Briggs said, "What went good is that our kids came and competed tonight. We've got three kids that came directly from junior high basketball and have never played a varsity game, especially Carrollton. It's a tough place to come play."
Roxana's Gavin Huffman had a hot hand from outside with four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points. Shells' teammate Jacob Golenor added nine points.
