Jerseyville's Country Christmas A Hit
JERSEYVILLE - The Jerseyville Downtown Country Christmas has become a big tradition for the community and this past Saturday, a large crowd congregated to kickoff the holiday season, Jersey style.

Much of State Street in Jerseyville was blocked off and this included events all day from a Breakfast with Santa to music on both ends of the street.

The Christmas tree lighting, a reading of the Night Before Christmas and a parade were also highlights Saturday.

Jerseyville Mayor William Russell said he was ecstatic at the outcome of Downtown Country Christmas this year. “This year was our third year and we estimate close to 4,000 people attended,” he said. “We want to do it bigger and better next year.”

Chris Lorton said George’s Local Brew at 205 South State St. in Jerseyville was steady all day with a packed house since noon. Lorton continued with, "With George's, Proof and Chopped being open now, we are trying to get the public to see Jerseyville as more of a destination and this event helps do that."
