The annual Jersey Veterans Day Parade was again a success, with strong community and veteran participation.

The keynote speaker at the memorial ceremony after the parade was Rev. Marty Smith of Holy Ghost Church in Jerseyville and St. Mary’s in Fieldon.

Elmer Heafner, a Jerseyville barber, and a veteran, was one of the organizers of the event. Heafner said there was a moderate crowd and everything was well presented. He commended Rev. Smith for his keynote speech at the memorial ceremony.

The parade started at Wells Norris in Jerseyville, then marched down State Street and turned left at H & R Block. A memorial ceremony followed after the parade near the courthouse.

Veterans of not only past wars and times, but those in present service marched. The many participants included the Jersey Community High School Band and Boy Scouts, along with many veterans, some past and presently serving their country.

Greg Breden, another parade and memorial organizer, said everyone stepped up to the plate with the parade and Courthouse ceremony both being very successful for veterans and the community.
