JERSEY COUNTY - A trip down the Great River Road is something to enjoy every fall and this weekend should be a good one. However, those wanting to get a good peak at fall colors better get with it, because the leaves will likely be falling fast.

A guard at Principia College said this year’s fall colors near the school are some of the best in recent years.

Taylor Hamberg, director of marketing and events at Pere Marquette Lodge, said the Great River Road and the Lodge have been busy with people viewing fall colors in recent days.

“We have been flooded with people coming with the leaves turning and the wine festival,” Hamberg said. “The Wine Festival this past weekend had 740 people and last year was 500. “

Hamberg said the leaves bloomed a little later than in previous years this year and have really blossomed the past few weeks.

She encouraged residents and those outside the region to come to the area soon if they want to view leaves because they will be falling soon. Some of the leaves have already fallen, she said.
