JERSEYVILLE - Jersey dominated Civic Memorial 42-0 on Friday night in a football matchup at Jersey.

The win was the the third for the Panthers to go with five defeats for the season.

Quarterback Drew Sauerwein connected on 21 of 29 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns. Receiver Blake Whitman had 10 catches for 154 yards. Sauerwein-Wittman have been a strong connection in the air all season for the Panthers. Jack Brandt also had six catches for the Panthers for 28 yards. Jersey’s Kurt Hall rushed twice for 98 yards in the game.

Jersey head coach Jon Adkins said he was proud of how his team came back Friday night after two difficult defeats.
He said he talked to the kids about how they could end their season on a positive note and they took step one against Civic Memorial.
“We played well and had a great week of practice,” he said. “We have 17 seniors and they are all a great group of kids. We want to end the season with a win against Columbia.”

CM falls to 1-7 with the defeat. “We had a couple opportunities in first half and didn’t capitalize,” CM coach Mike Parmentier said. “It has just been tough.”

CM has its Senior Night next week at home against Taylorville to close its season.

Jersey also has its Senior Night Friday night at home against Columbia.
