Jersey puts on offensive display against Granite City

Jersey put on quite an offensive display, but lost its opener to Granite City in a shootout 52-41 Friday night.

Coleton Fields led the Panthers with four carries for 81 yards and a touchdown on the evening, with Jack Brandt carrying 12 times for 39 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Drew Sauerwein was 25-for-36 for 222 yards and a touchdown to Blake Wittman. 

Granite City quarterback Freddy Edwards accounted for six touchdowns – four on the ground and two through the air Friday.

The Warriors are 1-0 on the year; the Panthers fell to 0-1. 

Edwards, a sophomore, ran 22 times for 247 yards and four touchdowns for GCHS.

The Panthers host Metamora next Friday while the Warriors host Carbondale; both games start at 7 p.m.  

Calhoun wins thriller 

Calhoun won a thriller over Camp Point at home 16-14 Friday night.

Cole Lammy and Ty Bick had touchdown runs for the Warriors.

Carrollton defeats Triopia 39-30 

Carrollton defeated Triopia 39-30 in a comeback win. Hawks young quarterback Hunter Flowers threw for 304 yards in his first start, carrying on Carrollton’s strong tradition of quarterbacks. 

The Hawks scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to notch the win.
