ROXANA - Southwestern and Roxana’s summer baseball teams are both looking at the summer as a time of learning and working out things for next season.

The team consists of incoming freshmen to juniors and it gives coaches an opportunity to get a look at what is ahead for the future against some good competition.
“Summer is a time we use to get the guys reps,” Roxana head coach Scott Harper said. “It is a long time before spring time and it gives us a chance to work on all the things we need to with the underclass guys who are coming back.” Harper said the coaches do have to contend with vacations and players doing other sports, but all the coaches work together well.

Brian Hanslow, the Southwestern head coach, said, “We work on hitting and look at our incoming pitchers,” he said. “We lost Colin (Baumgartner) but we have the rest of our pitchers back. We always hope to get 20 wins and win the conference during the high school season, so it is good to play summer baseball and continue to face top competition.”
