The Fishing Fair held Saturday in celebration of National Fishing Week and co-sponsored by Pere Marquette State Park, Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources was well-attended again this year.
The Two Rivers Family Fishing Fair offered fun and information for the entire family. There was information for beginning and experienced anglers and lots of activities for the kids. Fair visitors could learn knot tying, fish identification, fish cleaning, casting, and many other skills.
Attractions included a 4,000-gallon aquarium stocked with many of the local fish found in the Illinois River and a live grizzly bear! The aquarium fish are caught just before the event and released back into the wild at the conclusion of the event. The bear? He stays captive as he doesn't have the skills to be returned to the wild.
