The journey for Dee Rock to make it to White Hall all started when North Greene students built him a customized patriotic guitar in industrial arts class that he now uses on the road.
“North Greene teacher Kevin Fraser saw I was looking for a new guitar and was enjoying my Facebook page and said his students could build him one,” Rock said. “I am a patriotic guy and I said I think I want an American flag on it and he said he had an idea about what to do. Six to eight weeks went by and when the guitar was finished he convinced the school board and everybody else to come and visit me. It was a wonderful day when I met the kids and met with Kevin.”
Rock picked up some toiletries at a local White Hall general store and the checker asked him where he was from and when he said his name and Nashville, she knew who he was, which touched him.
“She said, ‘I thought that was you,’” Rock said. “I have been circulating enough now around White Hall that enough people recognize me. I think I am an extended neighbor.”
Rock’s goals were to leave a positive impression on the students and to show them that with hard work, anything is possible. Rock also stressed his patriotism and importance of supporting veterans during his presentation. He is a strong advocate for the Wounded Warriors organization.
Fraser said the North Greene students and White Hall and Roodhouse communities were extremely excited to have Dee Rock visit the school and area. He said they made the country star feel right at home in Greene County.
