JERSEYVILLE - The first annual DARE Dodgeball Tournament drew a large crowd of students and adults alike on Sunday at Jersey Community High School.
Jerseyville DARE Officer Rich Portwood organized the event. He said the thought was to create events for kids in town to do that was a safe alternative on weekends that was drug and alcohol free. He said the dodgeball tourney was one of the biggest events so far.’’ “We were pleased with the turnout,” he said. “All the money raised here goes to the DARE program.”
Portwood pointed out over the years, $15,000 has been donated by Jerseyville Police’s DARE program for scholarships. Funds raised also support the various community activities.
Dylan Wilfong, one of the winners in the dodgeball event, said it was a last-minute decision to play but said he enjoyed it and was glad to come out, conquer and win.
